Am Ende des vorigen Jahrhunderts hat die Physiologie des Gesichtssinnes nicht nur durch die Erfindung des Augenspiegels, sondern besonders auch durch die breite Basis der Fortschritte der Photographie einen schnellen Aufschwung erlebt. Eine ahnliche Lage ist in den letzten 30 Jahren auf dem Gebiete der Akustik durch das allgemeine Interesse der Technik an Rundfunk, Schallplatte und Bandtongerat entstanden und ist sowohl der Physiologie des Gehorsinnes, wie auch der Physiologie der Stimme und Sprache zugute gekommen. Und wahrend in unserer Studentenzeit die Physiologie des Gehors noch unter der "Oberschrift "Hortheorien" abgehandelt wurde, hat uns die moderne Elektroakustik nicht nur MeBverfahren, sondern durch die Entdeckung von FORBES, MILLER und Mitarbeitern im Reizfolgestrom ein Untersuchungsobjekt beschert, dessen Ein- bau in die Physiologie des Gehors erlaubte, unser Wissen vom Gehorsinn in den letzten Jahren gewaltig zu fordern. Das vorliegende Werk soll das sein, was sein Titel andeutet: eine Einfuhrung in die physikalischen Grundlagen der Rundfunk technik, wobei der Nachdruck auf die Worte "physikalische Grundlagen" zu legen ist. Sein Ziel ist einzig und allein, jene physikalischen Gesetze zu behandeln, die der modernen Rund funktechnik zugrunde liegen; keineswegs ist beabsichtigt, ein aus fuhrliches Werk uber die gesamt-e Hochfrequenztechnik zu bringen. Das Buch ist aus Vortragen entstanden, die der Verfasser vor einer Horerschaft von Physikern und Elektrotechnikern gehalten hat und die den Zweck verfolgten, den Horern einen Uberblick uber die Physik des Rundfunks zu geben und jene Kenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Hochfrequenztechnik zu vermitteln, die heute auch der Nichtfachmann, wenn auch Physiker oder Elektro techniker, nicht entbehren kann. Denn gerade die Grundelemente der Rundfunktechnik, der Schwingungskreis, die Elektronenrohre, die elektrische Welle sind fur jeden Elektrotechniker und be sonders fur den Messtechniker von der grossten Bedeutung, da sie heute in allen Zweigen der Elektrotechnik steigend Verwendung finden. Diese Vortrage waren von Versuchen begleitet, durch die angestrebt wurde, die besprochenen Gesetze besonders zu ver deutlichen und die Ubereinstimmung mit. der Erfahrung zu be weisen. Nach reiflicher Uberlegung habe ich mich jedoch ent schlossen, auf eine Schilderung dieser Versuche zu verzichten, nicht nur um den Umfang der Arbeit nicht allzusehr anwachsen zu lassen, sondern auch aus der Uberzeugung, dass die Beschreibung eines Versuches nur ein schlechter Ersatz dieses selbst ist und kaum uberzeugender wirkt als die mathematische Entwicklung."
